Rudhramadevi Movie Review – A Grand Historical Saga

Rudhramadevi

Anushka is synonymous with grand characters especially after Arundhati and 'Rudharamadevi' is an amazing fit for the actress. Director Gunashekar has made a great catch by bringing some of the top actors in India to tell a historic story that is worth sharing on screen.

While a lot of things are perfect about the movie, it is the CGI, dubbing and the presentation that makes it very mediocre at the large.

Quick Glance

What's great?

  • • Anushka's appealing performance as Rudhramadevi

  • • Prominent actors like Allu Arjun, Rana in supporting roles

  • • Attempt to recreate a great history on screen

  • • A story that revolves around a heroine is not common

  • • Cinematography to bring back the era

What's not?
  • • Ilayaraja's background score is not the best

  • • Graphics is extremely poor

  • • A dubbing movie's feel, something Tamil audience has to put up with

Anushka is the title character, Rudhramadevi who belongs to the Kakatiya dynasty. When she is born, enemies are ready to wage war because they believe only a son can defend the kingdom. Prakash Raj, their minister lies and brings Anushka up as a true warrior. When she's fully grown, the secret leaks and it is time to face the inevitable war.

The Cast

Anushka is simply flawless in her role and she has the capability to handle such a huge budget movie on her own shoulders. Seldom an actor in India could boast of such prowess which Anushka has. Allu Arjun and Rana deserves appreciation for agreeing a movie in which they are sidekicks while the main role is done by a heroine. Prakash Raj, Catherine Teresa, Nithya Menon among others add strength to the already crowded cast.

The Team

Rudhramadevi is a movie which is based on a real life queen which makes it extremely interesting to start off with. But, director Gunashekar loses his grip on the presentation, especially the graphics, stunts and background music. Cinematography is fitting but everything else falls flat. The dialog dubbing issue won't be there in Telugu but Tamil movie audience may find it annoying. Graphics is a major minus for the movie.

Many mistakes in the movie are unintentional and it is not a careless mistake. We should definitely appreciate Gunashekar for his sincere attempt within the budget and it's a decent watch!

Bottom line – Worth a watch for the team's effort albeit the flaws!
