Savaale Samaali Movie Review – Not so Comical as Promised

Savaale Samaali

Director Sathya siva wanted to come up with a simple comedy movie with a lesser known actor like Ashok Selvan and Jagan. While it is possible to come up with a romantic comedy especially with a stellar cast including Bindhu Madhavi, Nassar, Urvashi among many others, the team doesn't deliver what it was supposed to.

Quick Glance

What's great?

  • • Jagan's one liners that are enjoyable in bits and parts.

  • • A promising cast who have some decent roles to play in the movie.

  • • The usual plot which does evoke some interest in the beginning.

What's not?
  • • Surprisingly, Thaman known for his good music doesn't deliver.

  • • Ashok Selvan doesn't fit in a comical role even though he tries to.

  • • Annoying run time combined with even more boring scenes.

Ashok Selvan and Jagan are part of a television channel. The channel is performing really bad and in order to increase its TRP rating, they create a reality show where the idea is to make a pair fall in love and alter the scenes as the audience likes it.

The Cast

While Ashok Selvan is a decent actor who did well in movies like 'Soodhu Kavvum' and 'Pizza 2', the comedy hero role doesn't suit him much. It is evident that he is trying to give variety to be a complete star but let's hope he chooses more roles that suit him. Equally unappealing is Bindhu Madhavi because her role in limited. Jagan tries to save with his one liners and he does it sometimes. Despite the veteran cast, it doesn't impress.

The Team

Director Sathya siva should have worked closely with his cinematographer and editor to make the movie crisp. Even though, he had a decent plot in hand, it wasn't executed well. It's kind of tough to sit through the long movie which is more of multiple comedy scenes stitched together to make a full film. 'Savaale Samaali' plot a mix of some popular English films but doesn't have the flavor in Tamil.

Bottom line – A decent plot letdown by boring narration and not so impressive comedy.
