Vaanam Kottatum: More drizzle, less downpour

Expectations were high on the movie ever since it was announced by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. Directed by Dhana, it boasts of some interesting names who proved their mettle in performance-driven roles. Rashika and Sarathkumar come together after a long gap while Vikram Prabhu, Madonna Sebastian, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Shanthanoo form part of the cast.
Call it an emotional family drama. A single mother struggling hard to grow up her two kids after her husband goes to jail. The struggle of children growing up her knowing their father is a murderer and how the people looking at them. And what happens when the father is back seeking their love.

What’s Best

  • Splendid performance by Sarathkumar and Balaji Sakthivel
  • Vikram Prabhu’s show and body language
  • Aishwarya Rajesh’s character
  • Sid Sriram’s BGM

Watch out for:

The movie is more of an emotional drama and speaks about the feelings of every individual in the family from its own perspective. More in the shades of Mani Ratnam movies of the last it proceeds at a leisurely pace. The solid performance of Sarathkumar and Balaji Sakthivel makes it an engrossing fare.
One feels at the end that Vaanum Kottatum has all in it but misses out on something. However had the pace is maintained more, Vaanam Kottatum could have been different.
