Movie theatres in Kerala have not yet turned back to normal conditions. Now happy news to the movie lovers in Kerala. Movie theatres in Kerala are opening from January 5, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a press meet. However, only 50% occupancy is allowed to occupy the theatres by following all the rules and regulations of COVID-19 restrictions. “For nearly a year now, movie theatres have been fully closed in the state.
This has led to a big crisis for thousands of people working in the film industry. Considering this, a decision has been taken to open film theatres with certain restrictions. Strict action will be taken against those theatres which do not abide by these restrictions. Since the theatres have been closed for so long, they should be disinfected before being opened on January 5,” said CM Pinarayi.
It is said that the decision has been made as only a few days are left for the release of the Tamil movie Master, starring Vijay, Vijay Sethupathi. As Vijay enjoys a huge fan following in Kerala. The Kerala distribution rights of the Master have been bagged by actor Prithviraj and producer Listin Stephen. The Stakeholders hope that it will bring back the cheers to the box office. The theatres in Kerala have been remaining closed since March 11 last year.
The restrictions to enter the theatres are framed very strictly and when one is seen violating the rules, they will be punished severely. Also as per the reports, more than 60 movies at various stages of production are waiting to hit the screens. However, more movies have been released on popular OTT platforms. It is expected that once the theatres are opened the small budget movies may hit the screen and then gradually move to the big-budget movies.
This announcement comes as a big deal of relief to the Malayalam industry, which has suffered due to the disruption caused by the pandemic. It will be a herculean task for the theatre owners to prepare for the re-opening with COVID protocols in place within the next two weeks. Stay tuned for more exciting updates.
