Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru

Though the movie was released on 29th of December 2016 the movie started receiving huge response from the audience from the second week of Jan 2017 and turning to become a box office hit flick. The film became the talk of the town and also a surprise package that carried out from the end of 2016 to 2017. 

Kuttram 23

This investigative crime thriller was released on 3rd March 2017 and received a positive response from the critics from all the corner. This film was also said to be one of the best movies in the recent times. It also became Arun Vijay’s most profitable film in his career.

Maanagaram

Released on 10th March 2017, the film started receiving a good response, and positive word-of-mouth from the day one of its release for its gripping storyline and seamless screenplay. The film also went on to become a commercial hit venture at the box office.

8 Thottakkal

This film which hit the screens on the 7th of April received mixed reviews from the critics upon its release. Though there were flaws here and there, the film was much appreciated for handling a crime thriller smartly.

Lens

A critically acclaimed movie, this movie was released on 12th May and it dealt with voyeurism. The film received several accolades and also positive word-of-mouth from the critics all around the globe. Director/Actor/Singer Vineeth Sreenivasan had said that this film is a must watch for today’s internet-savvy generation.


Vikram Vedha

Released on 21st July this movie was initially certified with A certificate by the CBFC board but later they revised it to u/A certificate. The movie oped with positive reviews from all the corners and went on to become the second biggest grossing Tamil film of the year. The reviewers tagged this film as a must watch which created hype among the movie lovers. The film was also praised for its brilliant writing and astounding making. 

Taramani

Directed by Ram, the film hit the screens on 11th August. The film opened up with positive reviews and Andrea who played the female lead in this flick was praised particularly for her remarkable performance and choosing a solid role like this. After a slow start in the first week, the film made a big success in the second week with the increase in the number of screens in the multiplexes.

Aramm

Released on 10th November, the film received positive word of mouth from both the audience and critics on the first day of its release. The film was credited for its making and the treatment of the subject. Nayanthara was also credited for her performance in this flick. 

Theeran Adhigaram Ondru

This film which released on 17th November opened up with positive reviews. The film which is based on true events that happened during operation Bawaria Case was appreciated for its nail-gripping screenplay and action sequences. This film also had full occupancy in theaters even after 30days of its release.

Aruvi 

Released on 15th December, this film came as a surprise release at the end of this year. The film opened with highly positive reviews from the critics. With new cast and crew, it was indeed a great surprise for the movie lovers and this spread as wildfire to the audience through positive word of mouth. The critics especially appreciated the performance of the lead Aditi Balan for her exceptional performance.
