Story
Rajendra Palanichamy (Sarathkumar), the owner of the Rajendra Group of Companies, runs his empire with both his eldest son Jay (Srikanth ), and second son Ajay (Sham). Sarathkumar’s third son is Vijay Rajender (Thalapathy Vijay) who doesn’t want to be part of the empire and begins his own start-up because of this he leaves the house and cut all ties with his dad.
In the course of time, Sarathkumar is diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. His family doctor Prabhu informs Sarathkumar that he will live only for a few months. So he has to decide who will rule his company after him. That is when Sarathkumar decides to conduct his 60th wedding as per his wife Jayasuda’s wish and accepts to let his youngest son Vijay come back home after 7 years. On their 60th wedding event, Sarathkumar’s family faces a problem. As a result of this situation, Sarathkumar hands over the full responsibility of his Rajendra Group of Companies to Vijay and because of this the eldest son and the second son leave the house.
Vijay who is reluctant at the beginning takes full responsibility for the company when he learns that his father will die in a few months. What happens next? Will the brothers go against each other? Do they reunite with the family forms the rest of the story of Varisu.
Positives
1. Thalapathy Vijay looks playful and charming and his action portions are the highlight.
2. The bond between son and mom and her role at home has been beautifully brought in the film.
3. Father and son portions are good and well written.
4. Vijay and Yogi Babu’s combo work well and receive accolades.
5. S.J. Suriya’s cameo gets a good response and he rocked it.
Negatives
1. Portion between Vijay and Rashmika didn’t work out. Rashmika has no scope for acting in this film.
2. Prakash Raj, who plays the villain doesn’t get much space to show his villainous part as expected on the screen.
3. Samyukta doesn’t get much scope to perform.
4. Screenplay is a bit lagging.
Verdict
A half-baked usual Telugu family drama made in Tamil. Works mainly due to Thalapathy Vijay’s charisma and screen presence.
